platinum recording artist Yung Joc

Block Ent/Bad Boy South Platinum Artist Yung Joc and Georgia State Supreme Court Chief Justice Leah Ward Sears honor exceptional Atlanta Youth at The Choose Success Awards!

Earlier today, platinum recording artist Yung Joc presented awards to deserving elementary, middle and high school students at the Choose Success Awards. Students from Atlanta Public Schools and DeKalb County Schools recieved awards for making a difference through community service and individual students were honored for making significant improvements in school..

Brenda Wood, evening news anchor with Georgia's 11Alive News, served as Mistress of Ceremonies.

Chief Justice Leah Ward Sears of the Georgia Supreme Court spoke about the power of education and the importance of community service. Chief Justice Sears is the first African-American female to serve as Chief Justice in Georgia history.

Choose Success is a program that has been implemented by Communities In Schools (CIS) of Atlanta since 2005. Founded in 1972 with the goal of keeping kids in school, Communities In Schools connects community resources with schools to help young people successfully learn, stay in school and prepare for life.

Communities In Schools of Atlanta believes that every child should have opportunities to give back to their peers and communities.

The event was sponsored by the Coca-Cola Company, Block Entertainment, Publix Super Markets Charities, Wachovia, GE Energy, AutoTrader.com, and Raving Brands.

Choose Success provides students with a tremendous opportunity--- a chance to give back. Students identify needs in their communities, apply for small service project grants (up to $800), then implement their projects with the support of CIS of Atlanta staff. The experience gives students who are often the recipients of support a chance to be of service to others in need. Children realize that despite their own challenges, they can make a difference.
