Bad Boy recording artist Cheri Dennis has slated a wide range of promotional activity surrounding the physical release of her acclaimed debut album, “IN AND OUT OF LOVE.” Released exclusively last November on the iTunes Store (www.itunes.com) – the first-ever major label R&B album to receive a three-month digital exclusive release via iTunes – the collection will now arrive in stores across North America on February 26th.
iTunes’ exclusive release of “IN AND OUT OF LOVE” immediately landed in the top 10 on iTunes’ “Top R&B/Soul Albums” sales chart. The album’s success was fueled in part by the Rodney Jerkins-produced album track, “Remind You,” which drew over a quarter of a million free downloads as the iTunes Store’s “Single of the Week.”
In addition to “Remind You,” “IN AND OUT OF LOVE” features the current hit jam, “Portrait of Love (Feat. Yung Joc and Gorilla Zoe).” The single – produced by Soul Diggaz (Beyoncé, Mary J Blige, Britney Spears) – is drawing top 40 airplay at both Urban and Urban AC radio outlets nationwide, having already been the #1 Most Added track at Urban AC and #3 Most Added at Urban Mainstream in its first week.
Cheri has also been named Clear Channel’s “Artist To Watch” for the month of February, with “Portrait of Love” featured on demand on all Clear Channel Urban and Rhythmic station websites across the country. Furthermore, the “Portrait of Love” companion video – directed by Petro (Rufus Wainwright, Kelly Clarkson) – is now in rotation at BET, MTV Jams, and VH1 Soul.
Cheri is currently out on national promotional tour to support her album release, with a whirlwind of radio and press appearances scheduled through early March. Her busy itinerary encompasses stops in a range of major markets, including New Orleans, Memphis, Dallas, Atlanta, New York, Philadelphia, Cleveland, and Detroit.
On Tuesday, February 26th, Cheri will herald the CD release of “IN AND OUT OF LOVE” with a live appearance on BET’s 106 & Park (check local listing). That same day will see her visiting the innovative New York City high school, the Bronx Millennium Art Academy. Dennis will spend the day meeting students and performing in support of Urban Farming, a volunteer program focused on eradicating hunger, while increasing diversity, motivating youth and seniors, and optimizing the production of unused land for food and alternative energy. For more information on Urban Farming, please see www.urbanfarming.org.
February 28th will find Cheri continuing her work with Urban Farming, this time by doing an outreach and awareness event at a Detroit high school. That same day will also see Dennis making an eagerly awaited in-store appearance at former NBA superstar Derrick Coleman’s SNYX Sneaker Studio, located at 8961 Linwood Avenue on Detroit’s West Side.
Cheri recently performed live at New York’s Apple Store SoHo in association with the renowned mentor/mentee network, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Before the show, Dennis held a private meet and greet with children from the program, signing autographs and taking pictures. She also spent her day accompanied by a “Little Sister,” providing a positive and encouraging role model to the young mentee, who also got to see first-hand the busy and exciting life of a major recording artist.
As if all that weren’t enough, Dennis will be performing live on an upcoming installment of the long-running syndicated TV program, It’s Showtime At The Apollo. The performance is set to tape on Saturday, March 1st, with a broadcast date to be announced later.
Close to two years in the making, “IN AND OUT OF LOVE” sees Cheri Dennis revealing herself to be much more than just a powerhouse vocalist. The singer co-wrote many of the album’s songs – including her breakthrough debut hit single, “I Love You” – working in collaboration with some top studio superstars, including Timbaland (Justin Timberlake, M.I.A., Kanye West), Mario Winans (Diddy, Whitney Houston, The Notorious B.I.G.), and others.
A slate of national press followed the initial release of “IN AND OUT OF LOVE,” with features and reviews appearing in a wide range of publications. Among the many print and online outlets to highlight Dennis were Entertainment Weekly, Giant, Complex, Billboard, Right On!, Black Beat, Hip Hop Weekly, and Sophisticate’s Black Hair, Inside Black Hollywood, and SOHH.com.
